Faro is a city that represents the capital of the region of Algarve. The city, with close to 50,000 inhabitants, has the international Faro Airport, the second largest airport in the country. Faro is a very cosmopolitan city, and in its outskirts are other cities such as Loule, Vilamoura, Albufeira, Lagoa, and Lagos. The region of Algarve is situated in the southern most point of Portugal. The area stretches from the District of Faro, from the Spanish-Portuguese border, all the way past Ayamonte, and the Cabo de San Vicente in the extreme southwest of Portugal. In Algarve, there are many tourist destinations with sits of interest such as Portimao, Vilamoura, Albufeira, Lagoa, Tavira, Sagres, and Lagos, to name a few.
These cities have many things in common, such as amazing beaches, crystal clean waters, extensive seashores, and lots of natural habitat to enjoy. Beaches range from deserted and wild, to finely manicured tourist attractions with a complement of dozens of hotels, restaurants, and other services around the vicinity. Another aspect that all have in common are the fantastic temperatures that one can enjoy with over 300 days of sun all year round.
Other places, such as Portimao, or Tavira, or Lagoa, or even Montegordo, have fabulous golf courses, and beaches with perfect wind for sports such as kitesurf, windsurf, or surf, or even sailing. On the beaches you can also practice diving, horseback riding, cycling, or hiking.
Algarve, above all, is an ideal place to spend your holidays, as it has an ample range of places to stay, hotels, aparthotels, or hostels, holiday houses, villas and chalets, holiday flats and apartments, or rural houses, the choices are many! |
